KNO3 | Fantasma

The war for saltpeter, a salt that has been extensively used in the war and food industries over the past century, has been at the center of Chilean and European politics. The towns of Humberstone and Santa Laura, thriving quarries for the precious salt, were closed and abandoned following the discovery of its chemical synthesis by Carl Bosch and Fritz Haber, two German scientists. These once prosperous places are now ghost towns where only the echoes of the surrounding desert tell this story. The project was carried out between Chile and Germany, investigating the absence derived from man's exploitation of his fellow man in the structures created by society. White is the color of saltpeter, which in chemical formulation is expressed as KNO3.

chimica da parte di Carl Bosh e Fritz Haber, due scienziati tedeschi. Questi luoghi un tempo prosperi sono ora città fantasma dove solo gli echi del deserto che le
circonda racconta questa storia. Il progetto é stato realizzato tra Cile e Germania indagando l'assenza derivata dallo sfruttamento dell'uomo sui suoi simili nelle
strutture create dalla società. Il bianco é il colore del salnitro, che nella formulazione chimica si esprime come KNO3
